One of the most high-profile fake identification websites located in China shut down less than one week after U.S. Senators Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) wrote a letter to the Ambassador to the United States of the People's Republic of China requesting the Chinese government take swift action to investigate the production of fake IDs. On Friday, August 10, ID Chief (idchief.ph), posted a notice that it is "Closed For Business" stating that "we are stopping the website and novelty ID service."
In response to these recent developments, Senators Kirk and Durbin released the following statement:
"Companies like ID Chief that produce and distribute counterfeit IDs should no longer be in business. We will continue working to see that other websites providing fake U.S. identification documents are shut down in order to protect U.S. national security interests. We hope the Chinese government will be a partner in that effort."
