Congresswoman Laura Richardson's Statement on Chairman Darrell Issa's Federal Lawsuit

Today Congresswoman Laura Richardson issued the following statement after Chairman Darrell Issa announced his intent to file a federal lawsuit today against Attorney General Eric Holder for documents related to the subpoena on Operation Fast and Furious:

"This federal lawsuit is a politically motivated effort by the Republican party to undermine the Obama Administration and distract attention from the fact that Congressional Republicans have no agenda to create jobs or plan to address the major challenges facing our nation. It is also designed to distract Attorney General Eric Holder from his critical job of challenging state laws designed to restrict the rights of Americans to vote."

"An investigation done by Chairman Darrell Issa himself identified no evidence that the Attorney General or senior Department officials were aware of "gunwalking" in Fast and Furious. To the contrary, as soon as the Attorney General became aware of the tactic, he put a halt to it, ordered an Inspector General investigation, and instituted internal reform measures."

"House Republicans have failed to extend tax cuts for the middle class, pass the Farm Bill that would help farmers and rural families, or reauthorize the law assisting women victims of violence. The American people deserve Congressional leadership dedicated to working together to alleviate uncertainty and put America back to work. It's time for the Republican leadership to end this witch hunt and work with Democrats to strengthen our economy and our middle class."
