With the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate in Egypt's Presidential election, it is time to cut off the $1.3 billion in military aid to the Egyptian government.
"It makes no sense to borrow money from China to ship it to Egypt to arm a fundamentalist government," said Kurt Bills, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.
The United States spends a considerable sum on foreign aid, amounting to over $50 billion, not including money dedicated to non-governmental agencies, such as the International Monetary Fund.
Republican Kurt Bills supports the outlines of Senators Rand Paul, Jim DeMint, and Mike Lee's "Platform to Revitalize America," a proposal to balance the federal budget in five years. Included in that plan is a proposal to reduce foreign aid from the nearly $55 billion foreign aid budget to $5 billion.
"If we continue sending military aid to Egypt, it is quite possible that those weapons will be turned on our ally Israel in the near future," Bills said. "Foreign aid should be a tool to make the world more rather than less stable."
