Kurt Bills, Republican candidate for US Senate in Minnesota, today called on Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.

Holder, entangled in a longstanding and growing scandal surrounding the failed "Fast and Furious" gunwalking operation, is facing contempt of Congress charges. The House Oversight and Government Reform committee voted today 23-17 to recommend that Holder be held in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena for documents related to the operation.

"The Attorney General is the most senior law enforcement officer in the nation, and he has clearly lost the confidence of Congress. He has been stonewalling Congress, and has left the clear impression that he has something to hide. The President asserting executive privilege makes this scandal much worse," said Bills.

The Fast and Furious scandal erupted when it was discovered that the weapons found at the murder scene of Brian Terry, a US Border Patrol agent were sold as part of a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms operation named "Fast and Furious." The operation was supposed to help ATF track illegal weapons sales, but instead led to the distribution of over 1000 weapons to Mexican drug cartels with the aid of the US government.

"Operation Fast and Furious is a scandal. But the Justice Department stonewalling is blowing up into a full fledged constitutional crisis. Attorney General Holder should resign," Bills concluded.

Kurt Bills is the Republican candidate for Senate in Minnesota, running against DFL Senator Amy Klobuchar.
