Former Gov. Tommy Thompson today said the repeal and replacement of Obamacare will be his "day-one priority" as a U.S. Senator, regardless of how the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the constitutionality of the controversial law.
"The nation is waiting with great anticipation for a U.S. Supreme Court decision," Thompson said. "But no matter what the Court decides, we need immediate action in the next Congress to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a market-based solution."
Thompson said the Court's ruling on constitutionality will not change his position either way: "I've staunchly opposed the legislation all along and have the most comprehensive plan of this campaign to replace it with a solution that works for our families and employers," he said.
Thompson said his plan, a critical element of his RESTORE America reforms, addresses the complex regulations that have destroyed the market, the disconnection of economic realities and consumer choices, and the lack of true competition among providers and insurers.
There are six key actions guiding Thompson's RESTORE AMERICA health care initiative, which will replace government-run Obamacare with an efficient market-driven system:
* Reward Quality and Cost Savings
* Empower Consumers
* Control Litigation
* Greater Federal Funding Flexibility to Address High Risk Pools
* Reform Insurance and Encourage Employer Coverage
* Address Medicaid Challenges
