Everyone in Connecticut should be alarmed at today's news that our already bleak economic picture grew considerably worse last month, with the unemployment rate reaching a high point for this year. More than 156,000 Connecticut residents woke up this morning without a job, and the mounting evidence is that without some imminent relief, the economic slump will continue to deepen.
This news confirms my argument that we must get Connecticut working again by providing a tax cut for the middle class, putting an extra $500 each month in the pockets of our hardworking families in 2013. By also reducing regulations and freeing up small businesses to expand and create jobs, we will begin to climb out of the hole that Washington politicians have dug for us.
My opponent in the fall, Democrat Chris Murphy, has been leading the charge that brought us to the edge of this cliff. He has raised taxes across the board, and worse yet, voted to dramatically increase taxes on our strapped middle class. If he had his way, Connecticut residents would be paying higher taxes today, and our predicament would be even more dire.
I am proud to be the only candidate in this race calling for a middle class tax cut. We must kick start this economy and get America back to work.
