Suzan DelBene's Statement on Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold the Affordable Care Act

Statement

Suzan DelBene, candidate for Washington's 1st Congressional District, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act:

"Today's decision by the Supreme Court is great news and means we can move forward to finish the job President Obama started with the Affordable Care Act to ensure every American has access to quality, affordable health care.

"The Affordable Care Act upheld today is already helping millions in Washington state by allowing children to be covered on their parents' plans until age 26, preventing insurance companies from denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions and reducing costs of prescription drugs for seniors on Medicare.

"There is still more to do. Specifically, government can incentivize competition, provide an affordable public option, strengthen regulation and oversight of the existing system, and continue to reform the health care system based on frequent assessments of what is working and what is not. We still need to address the issue of the rising cost of health care for working families.

"As positive as today's decision is, it's been an incredibly divisive process to get to this point. We can do better. It's time for Congress to get past the partisan bickering and get to work helping working families. This is why I'm running, to bring my personal and professional experience of getting results to the other Washington and give the middle class a voice in Congress."
