Late yesterday, the House of Representatives passed legislation to impose additional sanctions on Iran's energy and financial sectors. Congressman John Tierney, who supported the bipartisan bill, said strong action must be taken to prevent Iran's ongoing and dangerous pursuit of nuclear weapons. The legislation also passed the Senate yesterday and will now go to the President for signature.
"A nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat to the United States, to Israel, and to the stability of the entire region. The bill the House passed, and I supported, would impose the most comprehensive sanctions ever enacted against Iran. While I remain hopeful that negotiations will prevail and a peaceful settlement can be reached to halt Iran's nuclear ambitions, the steps we took today send a clear message that the United States will use every tool at our disposal to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon," Congressman Tierney said.
