Boustany Seeks to Provide Americans with Tax Relief

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr. M.D. (R-South Louisiana) released the following statement after the House of Representatives approved H.R. 8, the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012. This legislation extends the current income tax rates for all Americans for one year:

"Today, House Republicans voted to keep more money in the pockets of families across the nation. The choice is clear: we either create jobs for American families or we tax small businesses.Raising taxes on American families and small businesses during this period of chronic unemployment will only eliminate an estimated 700,000 jobs.

"Allowing for the tax relief policy to expire will hurt middle class families. The average taxpayer in my home state of Louisiana will see relief of almost $1800. This Administration continues its assault of tax-and-spend policies. Our country cannot afford it. I urge the Senate to support extension of the tax relief policy and vote in favor of it."
