Round Two of Middle Class vs. Millionaires Tax Debate: Hirono Still Standing Strong with Hawaii's Families

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (HI-02) today voted against the Republicans' latest measure that fast tracks tax reform ideas from the majority's budget that would give big corporations and the super rich a knock-out win and put middle class families on the ropes.

"I give my Republican colleagues points for consistency. They've been very clear that their priority is more tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent, more giveaways for big corporations and eliminating the tax cuts that middle class families rely on," said Congresswoman Hirono.

"My priority is to help our families make ends meet, afford health care, buy a home, send their kids to college and save for retirement. We should be helping families and small businesses succeed, not lining the pockets of corporations that ship jobs overseas.

"We need tax reform but we need to have a real debate with ideas from both sides of the aisle. Real tax reform will support middle class families, a competitive American economy, a strong national defense and gets our deficit under control. Those are my values and that's what I'm fighting for."
