Sullivan Supports Increasing American-Made Energy

Today, Congressman Sullivan offered the following statement after the House passed H.R. 6082, the Congressional Replacement of President Obama's Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan. Specifically, the bill repeals and replaces President Obama's proposed five-year offshore drilling plan with an environmentally responsible, robust plan that truly supports increased American energy and American jobs over the next five years.

"This legislation is crucial to not only securing our energy independence, but also to getting our economy on the right track. With the American people footing the bill for our nation's $1 billion per day addiction to foreign oil, it is essential that we develop and utilize the oil and natural gas in our own backyard, instead of continuing to be held hostage by OPEC nations in unstable regions of the world. President Obama's "solution' to energy independence is to shut down 85 percent of our own offshore areas to energy production and fails to open any new areas for drilling. The legislation that I supported today will, instead, expand American-made energy production offshore and create tens of thousands of new jobs for American workers.

Until Congress adopts an "all of the above' energy policy, consumers are going to be hit with unpredictable prices at the pump. I will continue to reject all of the Obama Administration's proposals restricting American-made energy development, and I will continue to work steadfastly with my colleagues to replace the President's failed energy policies with initiatives that will set our nation on a path towards energy security."
