Dr. Dan Benishek released the following statement today regarding the Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act:
"I am disappointed that the Supreme Court has declared the new healthcare law constitutional. The high court's ruling does not change what we as a country must do to fix our ailing healthcare system. The new healthcare is a drag on small businesses here in Northern Michigan preventing them from hiring and investing in infrastructure for fear of unknown cost being forced on them by the federal government. Small businesses cannot survive the healthcare law, which is why we need to repeal it.
"Now that the Supreme Court has refused to remove the President's healthcare law, it is time to put together a plan that will actually help Americans and small businesses. Fixing our nation's healthcare problems is a pressing issue, but rushing it through was the wrong approach. As a doctor, I have nearly 30 years of experience dealing with healthcare on a firsthand basis. We need to make sure we fix our healthcare woes by putting patients in charge. Everyone is an individual and has unique needs. If I prescribed everyone the same medications it would be a waste of time, money, effort and would not be helpful for my patients. . This is what Washington tried to do. Now it is time for a different approach that is as individual as the care we receive."
