Dr. Dan Benishek released the following statement today regarding the United States House of Representatives vote today to repeal the Affordable Care Act:
"As a doctor, I've spent nearly 30 years navigating the health care system. I can say confidently that the President's new healthcare law will cause nothing but pain to those I represent in Northern Michigan. Our rural hospitals, which already operate on razor thin budgets, will be paid less for the care they provide as healthcare cost will rise across the board, forcing them to shutter their doors. Small business owners who are already barely surviving in this economy will be forced, due to high costs, to stop providing healthcare for their employees, leaving hard working Americans to look for and fund their own healthcare. None of that even takes into account that this is one of the largest tax increases in American history.
"Northern Michigan cannot afford this law and that is why I'm voting to repeal it. America needs is a bi-partisan, patient centered, free market healthcare solution that reduces cost and we can't put one in place until we repeal the President's overreaching, misguided healthcare law. "
