Issue Position: Budget

Issue Position

The current GOP legislative majority inherited a $5 billion dollar deficit. They cut $2 billion, shifted another $1.2 billion from schools to the state, borrowed $750 million to fund deficit sand have left a $4 billion dollar deficit for the next biennium. We simply have to do better.

*The legislature should make decisions in public and allow input from the people of Minnesota. Never again should a budget be set behind closed doors in a locked and dark Capitol.

*Make fiscally prudent and balanced decisions. It's time those that have benefited most from past tax cuts to again pay their fair share and close tax loopholes.

*Make decisions with both the short term and long term in mind.

*We need to stop borrowing against our schools to balance the state's budget.
