Rep. Sandy Adams (FL-24) voted to keep taxes low for all Americans today, supporting passage of the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act. This legislation would ensure that tax rates for all Americans remain low, preventing a massive tax hike from taking place at the end of the year. The legislation passed on a bipartisan vote of 256-171.
"President Obama has said that we don't raise taxes in a recession, and on that, we agree," said Adams. "Central Florida's economy continues to struggle, with the housing market still underwater and the Administration's ending of the shuttle program putting tens of thousands of Space Coast residents out of work. The last thing anyone needs is yet another tax. I would urge the Senate to pass the House legislation so that seniors on fixed incomes don't see their investment income reduced, and so higher taxes don't stop small business owners from hiring new employees and helping turn around the economy. Everyone in Congress says we need to get America moving again, but we can't do it with higher taxes. It's time for the Senate to walk the walk, stand up for Central Florida taxpayers, and pass legislation to keep taxes low for all Americans."
