I am both pleased and proud to support the provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that improve women's access to preventive health care services. Starting today, these policies will allow women covered by new health plans to receive vital services, including contraceptive coverage that is free of charge.
The issue of women's health is an important and pressing one in today's society. Research shows that 99 percent of American women will use contraceptives at some point in their lives. Providing free birth control is thus a healthy and beneficial way to ensure that all women are financially able to fulfill their basic health care needs.
I strongly support a woman's right to have control over her own body and access to contraceptive coverage. The ACA's contraceptive coverage policy, among other women's preventive services, ensures a healthy future for American women and society as a whole. I am pleased to see this policy become reality today as we give women control over their health and reproductive decisions.
