Landrieu Annonces $500,000 Grant to Support HIgh-Growth Job Creation in North Louisiana

Press Release

Location: Washington DC

U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today announced that Louisiana Tech has been awarded a $500,000 grant to support its partnership with Winrock International Institute for Agricultural Development in Little Rock, Ark. In May 2011, Sen. Landrieu wrote to the Economic Development Administration (EDA) in support of Louisiana Tech's Proof of Concept Center.

The grant will fund efforts to leverage regional resources to provide technical assistance, individualized business support, and professional networking services for local businesses. Louisiana Tech received the award through the EDA's Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge program. This marks Louisiana Tech's second major EDA award in the last year. In October 2011, Louisiana Tech was awarded $1 million through the U.S. Department of Commerce's i6 Green Challenge program for its Proof of Concept Center.

"I am proud to see Louisiana Tech's strong partnerships with Federal agencies continues to spur job growth and economic development in North Louisiana," Sen. Landrieu said. "This recent award is the latest of several programs that Tech faculty and staff have coordinated to support high-growth businesses. I thank the EDA for continuing to make strategic investments such as this in Louisiana - they are important for economic growth in the region and the country as a whole."

Louisiana Tech's collaboration with Winrock integrates the university's work in innovation, entrepreneurship and technology and business development with Winrock's expertise in community capacity building and business acceleration.

The Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge program is a national competition designed to spur job creation and economic growth in distressed rural communities by identifying and leveraging local assets and strengthening linkages to industry clusters. Accelerator winners will stimulate new economic activity and quality job growth in the information, energy, green technology and biosciences cluster within their region.
