Lungren Introduces Bill Honoring Frederick Douglass by Placing Statue in U.S. Capitol

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Committee on House Administration Chairman Dan Lungren, R-Calif., issued the following statement after introducing a bill co-sponsored by Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton honoring the significant contributions of Frederick Douglass by adding his statue to the U.S. Capitol:

"I am pleased to introduce this resolution honoring the achievements of Frederick Douglass by authorizing a statue to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Douglass is a pivotal figure in American history who had an unyielding dedication to equal rights, the abolition of slavery and the advancement of women's suffrage.

"In considering the remarkable achievements of Frederick Douglass and his contributions to our rich history, his presence within the U.S. Capitol will honor this institution and serve as an endearing testimony to the struggle for freedom and equality."
