"The road to a healthy Florida will be paved with a comprehensive economic development plan. A plan that focuses on education, innovation and efficiencies enhancing our quality of life" -- Kathleen Peters
Education needs to be one of our top priorities. Education will be our greatest resource in competing in the global market. Our focus must be comprehensive to include: Pre-K, primary & secondary education, higher education & workforce development.
Innovation paired with entrepreneurial expansion will lead us to a stronger more diversified economy. With expansions in Florida's ports, we are in a position to be the hub of world trade opening numerous opportunities for business expansion and innovative partnerships.
Continuing to execute greater efficiencies is key as we move into the future. While local and state governments have worked hard to reduce spending, we must continue to find efficiencies and eliminate regulations that stifle business development and expansion. Some of the best ways to improve effectiveness is through expansion of public/private partnerships and collaborative or consolidated efforts. Businesses partnering with other businesses or not-for-profit organizations that share a vision can leverage resources and produce stronger outcomes. I have spent many years working in the community building such partnerships realizing significant positive outcomes and cost savings.
Protecting our quality of life and fostering healthy communities is key to Florida's future. Healthy communities are not just about health. A healthy community enhances life through good mental and physical health, stronger families and safer neighborhoods. This comes to us through numerous factors that are built on natural environments, economic prosperity, social stability and equity, educational opportunities and cultural, entertainment and recreational opportunities. They key is finding the balancing role of government and public/private partnerships in ensuring healthy communities and quality of life.
