Rising tuition costs for college have been passed onto students partly because the state has failed to adequately fund higher education. This has pushed up the cost of a college degree and increased the debt of college students so that more students are choosing not to pursue a career in teaching, health care, or public service because they cannot afford to pay back their college loans on the salaries those jobs provide. An educated and trained workforce is essential to make this state great. We need to fund higher education to make college affordable for all who want it. We can't afford not to make education a priority.
