Womack and Bipartisan Coalition of Members to Urge EPA to Act Now to Reduce the Renewable Fuels Standard Mandate

Statement

Congressman Steve Womack -- with Congressmen Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), Mike McIntyre (D-NC), Jim Matheson (D-UT), and more than 150 other Members of Congress -- sent a letter this morning to the EPA Administrator urging her to take action to reduce the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) to help ease corn supply concerns and protect American consumers, livestock producers, and the economy.

Congressman Womack released the following statement shortly following this morning's press conference in front of the Capitol:

"Today, I -- along with more than 150 of my colleagues -- sent a letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, asking for immediate relief from the government mandate on ethanol production.

"The price of corn has skyrocketed, and the impact this is having on the animal protein industry and at the dinner table is profound. If something isn't done -- and done fast -- food prices will soar and jobs will be lost.

"Producers and American families need relief, and the EPA has the necessary tools to provide that relief. It is my strong opinion that Administrator Jackson must take swift action to address this crisis."
