Issue Position: Energy for Prosperity

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Proven power for real energy solutions.

The high cost of energy is the most important issue facing Alaska and our District. A strong economy with good jobs requires low-cost long term energy sources for Alaska. I sit on both the House Energy Committee and the House Resources Committee, giving our District a seat at the table working to create real job and energy security for all of us.

Chris Tuck Delivers

Co-sponsored legislation that moves to reclassify hydropower as a renewable resource;
Passed a bill that stabilizes the Cook Inlet gas supply by reducing gas tax rates and incentivizing gas storage facility construction while protecting consumers;
Pushed through new legislation that will speed-up the process for an in-state natural gas pipeline;
Lowering energy costs and passing the savings on to every Alaskan.

Cook Inlet gas already has the lowest tax rate of any petroleum production in the state. The legislation I worked to pass in Juneau is designed to pass tax savings related to gas storage on to the consumer. I will be watching implementation of this bill closely to ensure that we all get the promised benefit.

I'll continue to take concrete steps to move an in-state gas line forward. In addition to heating our homes, this will help create new industries and provide new revenues for our state. My goal is to help keep families warm, and keep the lights on in our homes and businesses.

Chris Tuck Promises

To continue to work out solutions to the gas shortage in South central;
To keep working for an in-state gas line;
To protect consumers while ensuring reliable energy supplies.
A thriving Alaska comes from the energy we pump out from our Great Land using the boundless energy of our great Alaskan workers.
