Having served many years as a trial court judge and a deputy district attorney, I know the necessity of case management. The people of Alabama need and deserve to have cases they bring to the court heard within a reasonable period of time. ""Justice delayed is Justice denied,"" and whether in a civil or criminal context, it is our responsibility to provide appropriate resolution within a reasonable period of time.
Mediation, negotiation, and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution often serve to provide the most acceptable results to both parties, but if all else fails then courts and judges must be readily available to ""move the docket.""
The Chief Justice frequently assigns additional judges to assist across the state where needed. As Chief Justice I will make certain that such a system is not abused by partiality, favoritism, or prejudice to any party.
