Rep. Sean Duffy (WI-07) released the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 5856, the FY 2013 Defense Appropriations Bill:
"The House-passed Defense appropriations bill demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the troops and their families. Without question, the brave men and women who sacrifice so much for our nation must have the tools and resources to stay safe while in the throes of battle and to guarantee their well-being when at home. That's why this bill provides sufficient resources for health and family programs, including medical facility upgrades and traumatic brain injury and psychological health research. We also provide the funds necessary to make long-overdue equipment upgrades and ensure our military remains the finest in the world. But we're also fully-cognizant of the fiscal state of our nation, so this bill also ensures taxpayer dollars are not squandered. We saved millions through cost cutting provisions, including eliminating $175 million in Afghanistan nation building funds, that won't threaten the safety and success of our troops in the field. I believe we can save even more by ending the decade-long mission in Afghanistan and that is why I continue to support an accelerated withdrawal to safely bring our troops home."
