Wolf Statement On Department of Justice IG Report

Statement

Date: July 26, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Judicial Branch

Upon the release today of a report by the Department of Justice's Inspector General examining allegations of improper hiring practices within the Justice Management Division (JMD), Congressman Frank Wolf (R-10th), a long-standing advocate for federal employees, issued the following statement:

"The report issued by the Department of Justice Inspector General today is alarming, especially given that the department has twice been warned about these illegal practices before. Nepotism has no place in any federal agency, and it is especially disturbing coming from the Department of Justice -- the agency charged with enforcing the law. As chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee that funds DOJ, I expect for the employees involved in this nepotism ring to be punished under full extent of the law. I also expect the department to move quickly to enact the necessary reforms to prevent this from happening again."

This is the third investigation in recent years involving improper hiring practices within JMD. This investigation was a result of information forwarded to DOJ by Wolf involving the hiring of children of senior JMD officials.
