Today, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R -- IL) voted in support of H.R. 6082, the Congressional Replacement of President Obama's Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan. Kinzinger, a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement upon House passage:
"The House took action today to replace the President's no-new energy plan with a robust, environmentally responsible blue print that will boost new energy development, lower prices at the pump, and create domestic jobs. The House plan includes nearly double the amount of lease sales contained in President Obama's plan and comes amid a recent non-partisan Congressional Research Service report stating the Administration's plan contains the lowest number of lease sales in the history of the program, while closing off 85% of the nation's 1.71 billion acres of Outer Continental Shelf lands."
"With unemployment above 8% for 41 straight months and gas prices nearly double what they were three years ago, it is time for the Obama Administration to stop playing politics with the budgets of middle class Americans and take action to make our nation more energy secure."
