Our children are just as deserving as the students in the Twin City suburbs and other property-rich school districts. While our districts are passing referendums to keep the lights on, they have the resources to add indoor golf practice facilities. The Republican majority actually cut school aid last session. This leaves only two options for local districts: cut programs and staff or increase property taxes, which are already too high for many on fixed incomes.
Some have actually suggested all schools should be private, and taxpayer money should go to private schools and home schooled children. We need a school funding method that ensures all children in public schools have an equal opportunity for success.
