Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement today in response to the senseless shooting of innocent moviegoers at a theater in Aurora, Colorado:
"The thoughts and prayers of my Constituents in the 18th Congressional District, Texans and Members of Congress are with Coloradans this morning as they wake up to this random, senseless act of violence that took the lives of innocent people.
"This incident which unfortunately happened just a few miles from Columbine High Scholl calls for a deep review with issues of domestic terrorism and a study of the perpetrator and his associates. It is crucial that the responsibility of protecting the homeland is looked at much more closely.
"I always want to express my deep concern that military personnel may have lost their life too. Also, if his apartment was rigged with explosives this opens up another can of worms that needs to be looked into immediately. This is a serious problem of possible domestic terrorism.
"As local law enforcement, first responders, and medical professionals work tirelessly in the aftermath, as always, the federal government will be a partner. As families confront this tragedy, the nation and its leaders are praying for them."
