Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement in regards to the death of Ghanaian president John Atta Mills:
"My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Ghana as they mourn the death of their president. President Mills passed away unexpectedly in Accra on Tuesday just five months shy of having finished his first term in office. He was 68.
"He served as living testimony to the solidity of the country's democracy. He leaves behind many admirers from all over the world. His work will never be forgotten. President Mills left a powerful legacy not only on Ghana, but also on the world. He will forever be remembered as an intellectual, a remarkable man, and a compassionate leader."
