Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) today issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 4078, the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act.
"When I'm back in Tennessee meeting with small business owners, one of the things I hear most is how excessive government regulations are hindering their ability to grow and create jobs. They are tired of government mandates.
"Today, there are more federal regulations on the books than any other time in our nation's history. American small business owners are stuck in a mess of red tape. Since President Obama took office, we've seen a 52 percent increase in regulations that individually cost the economy at least $100 million annually. The bottom line -- the President's policies have failed and are making the economy worse.
"Unlike this President, Republicans know who built these businesses. This legislation provides relief for our small business owners from the job-killing regulations being forced on them by Washington bureaucrats. H.R. 4078 would stop new regulations from moving forward until the unemployment rate drops below six percent and it ends "midnight regulations' from being written behind closed doors. Republicans know that the best way to cut unemployment is to cut the red tape.
"Washington bureaucrats don't have a clue what it takes to run a small business. It's time for President Obama and Senate Democrats to get out of the way and stop blocking the bipartisan jobs bills that have passed the House this Congress. Government doesn't create jobs, it creates the environment for jobs growth to take place. Let's stop punishing our job creators with more red tape. Less regulation equals more job creation.
