Alan Lowenthal, candidate in California's newly-drawn 47th Congressional district, was named today to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's (DCCC) highly competitive Red-to-Blue program. In order to qualify for Red-to-Blue status, Lowenthal surpassed demanding fundraising, organizing, and infrastructure goals and skillfully demonstrated to voters that he is a problem-solver who will protect the middle class when elected to Congress.
Lowenthal's deep roots in the district, as well as recent polling showing him with an 11 point lead over his Republican opponent, make him the favorite in this newly drawn California district.
"Now more than ever, Washington needs strong, principled leaders with the right priorities like Alan Lowenthal," said DCCC Chairman Rep. Steve Israel. "In Congress, Alan will be a tireless fighter for the middle class and will protect Medicare for our seniors instead of continuing to give more tax breaks to millionaires and Big Oil companies."
"I am honored that so many people in California's 47th Congressional District are joining our grassroots campaign to create jobs, stand up for middle class families, protect Medicare and Social Security and reignite the American dream," said Lowenthal. "With this support, we'll continue our campaign to bring common-sense bipartisan leadership to our communities and Washington, D.C."
The DCCC's Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications, grassroots, and strategic support. The program will introduce Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for these campaigns.
