Following the introduction of legislation by U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has moved to ensure that 100 percent of the steel purchased by the U.S. military is made in America.
The move by DoD comes after Senator Casey voiced strong concerns that "Made in America' requirements for steel were too loose, allowing steel purchased by the military to be primarily manufactured in foreign countries. DoD will now purchase steel melted and finished in America.
"This move will ensure that any time the Department of Defense buys steel, it will be stamped "Made in America,' " said Senator Casey. "Standing up for Pennsylvania's steel industry is vital for jobs and the economic security of the state, and this move will ensure our workers have an opportunity to produce steel for our armed forces."
