Senator Stabenow Applauds Progress of New Grayling VA Health Clinic

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow today applauded the progress of the new U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Grayling. The VA announced that the new clinic will be located at 1680 Hartwick Pines Rd., Grayling, MI. The Grayling clinic will provide primary care, mental health care, and even specialty care through tele-health technology, and will help ease the burden of area veterans who regularly make long and often difficult trips to VA hospitals in other parts of the state. According to the VA, the proposed opening of the Grayling clinic is October 2012.

Senator Stabenow said: "This is welcome news for Grayling-area veterans who have made great sacrifices in defense of our country. It is unacceptable that many veterans have to drive hundreds of miles to receive basic health care services. The new Grayling VA health clinic will make sure Northern Michigan veterans have access to the critical health benefits and services they have earned."

For years, Senator Stabenow has led the effort to make sure that veterans get the care they need and bring veterans health clinics to Michigan. In the past five years, new clinics have opened in Alpena, Bad Axe, Cadillac, Clare, and Cheboygan County.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, there are approximately 700,000 veterans in Michigan.
