U.S. Senator Herb Kohl today announced that Wisconsin received grant funding through the Department of Transportation's State of Good Repair Program, totaling $11,778,827. The grants will be used to purchase new buses, maintain bus facilities, and update equipment. Kohl has been a long time supporter of investing in Wisconsin's public bus transportation system.

"Public transportation is key to connecting people with job and education opportunities," Kohl said. "Buses are a central component of public transportation systems and it is essential that these systems are maintained and kept in good working condition to allow individuals the mobility they need to get back and forth from their jobs, their schools, or even the grocery store."

Wisconsin received a total of 5 individual grants:

City of Janesville -- $3,779,605

Milwaukee County - $3,240,000

City of Beloit - $660,000

Madison Metro Transit - $3,786,500

Green Bay Metro - $312,722
