A bill backed by U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill and critical to the defense and support of Israel is now headed to the President's desk after receiving unanimous support from both houses of Congress.
"Israel is a democratic voice and a strategic U.S. ally in an area of the world that's increasingly under threat-and the American commitment to ensuring a strong and long-lasting partnership needs to be unwavering," McCaskill said. "It's important that the United States continue to make a strong commitment to the security of Israel."
The legislation includes the extension of loan guarantees to Israel through fiscal year 2015, and extends the forward-deployed weapons stockpile which allows for the quick response to any military threat facing Israel. The bill also contains an unambiguous statement of support for Israel, as they contend with dangerous actors in the region such as Syria and Iran. The bill spells out efforts to expand cooperation between the United States and Israel in homeland security, counter-terrorism, maritime security, energy, and cyber security.
The bill, which unanimously passed the U.S. Senate last month, passed the U.S. House today by voice vote.
