Congressman Andrews Announces Nearly $2.2M Investment in Clean Water & Jobs for South Jersey

This week, Congressman Andrews announced that the Department of Agriculture has issued nearly $2.2 million in federal loans to improve our region's drinking water and create or sustain up to 50 jobs as estimated by local municipal engineers. Congressman Andrews voted in support of these funds, which were allocated out of the Agricultural Appropriations bill President Obama signed into law last November.

Specifically, the Borough of Barrington will receive a loan of more than $2 million to replace the aging pipes on Thomas and Kingston Avenues and install an additional pipe to collect sump pump discharge from homes that overburden the current system. This addition will reduce energy and maintenance costs while freeing up resources at the Willows Pump Station. Paulsboro will receive a $113,800 loan to complete construction of new water storage equipment facilities to accommodate the development of the Port of Paulsboro, a project that is estimated to bring 2,000 jobs to South Jersey according to the South Jersey Port Corporation.

"These federal funds provide safer water for our residents and increase water capacity, which is vital to economic development and expansion," said Congressman Andrews. "The high quality construction jobs these projects create are immensely important, but it is the long term economic benefits of these projects that will continue to support local jobs for years to come."
