U.S. Rep. Billy Long issued the following statement after voting to repeal President Obama's massive tax increase:
"We need health care reform but it should put patients first and it should not be paid for by a massive tax increase on the low-income and middle class. We need patient-centered reforms that allow doctors and patients to make health care decisions free from Washington bureaucrats.
"In addition to the massive tax increase, this law also cuts Medicare by a half a trillion dollars, denies care to seniors, and hinders job creation. If a small business that has 50 employees wants to hire an additional employee, they will have to either pay a penalty or provide all employees with health insurance. Given that enormous increase in cost, there is a huge disincentive to create jobs in this country. And in our current economy, we should be encouraging job creation, not penalizing it.
"Today I voted to repeal this law because of these and many other bad provisions. I will continue to work hard and ensure the president's government takeover of health care is replaced with free market reforms that put patients first."
Long has voted more than 30 times to repeal or defund part or all of the president's healthcare law.
