The Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee met today for a hearing on The Future of U.S. Special Operations Forces. Chairman Mac Thornberry (TX) made the following statement available as prepared for delivery:
"The accomplishments of SOF over the past decade in fighting terrorists have been remarkable. While I believe too much information about what they do and how they do it has been publicized, the American people and especially those of us charged with more detailed oversight stand in awe of their professionalism and dedication.
"But none of us can afford to rest on our past accomplishments. The world changes and threats continue to evolve. The days and years ahead will see new challenges and tight budgets. So it is appropriate to examine how Special Operations should evolve to ensure that our nation's security is protected. Congress has a key role to play in that evolution, and I know that members on both sides of the aisle are committed to playing a constructive role in shaping those changes."
