Rothman Statement On Bergen County Transportation Summit
Hasbrouck Heights, NJ - Congressman Steve Rothman (D-Fair Lawn) today issued the following statement regarding the Bergen County Transportation Summit.
"As residents of one of the most densely crowded regions of the most densely populated state in the nation, the quality of life of Northern New Jerseyans depends on an effective transportation network of roads and rails to safely and efficiently get to work, school, and recreational activities. Additionally, businesses, which are dependent upon products and services being delivered in a timely and reliable way, need an updated and well-designed transportation system to keep jobs in New Jersey and create new ones here.
"Today, the Bergen County Transportation Summit is providing an excellent opportunity to discuss the future of commuter rail in Bergen County. New Jersey needs a cohesive and comprehensive rail network that can provide mass transportation to the greatest number of Northern New Jerseyans, including residents who live along the Northern Branch Line. The plan that New Jersey Transit Executive Director George Warrington proposed today is a step forward in our ongoing discussions and efforts to provide Bergen County residents with the right mix of options for commuter rail service.
"As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and that panel's Subcommittee on Transportation, I will continue to fight to bring back the federal dollars needed for critical rail and road projects in Northern New Jersey to ease traffic congestion, air pollution and to improve the overall quality of life for the people of our region."
