Issue Position: A Big Focus on Small Business

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

As a small business owner himself, David Gill understands that small companies and sole proprietors are the heart of our economy in central and southwest Illinois. Across the country, small businesses create two out of every three jobs. David is ready to be a real partner in Congress to help small businesses get back on their feet.

David will encourage small business owners to create jobs by supporting a tax credit for new hires and tax relief for investments they make. He wants to reward companies who bring jobs back to America with lower taxes and pay for it by eliminating all tax incentives for companies to ship jobs overseas.

But David Gill knows the best ideas to create jobs, expand opportunities, create long-term growth and develop innovative solutions to our nation's most pressing problems will never be put into practice until the credit markets start funding business expansion again. In Congress, David will push to expand the amount of business lending that credit unions are allowed to do to increase access to credit and capital for small companies to hire more workers, buy new equipment and expand their operations. He knows we can't continue to allow the big banks to monopolize the business lending market.
