Today, Filemon Vela, seeking the Democratic nomination to the 34th U.S. Congressional District of Texas, released details of a South Texas delegation he has organized and is leading to San Antonio to attend an event with President Barack Obama.

"For the first time in the history of the Rio Grande Valley, we brought together more than 150 strong South Texas Democrats who believe in the ideals of improving our economy through job creation, making health care more accessible for all and improving educational opportunities for our children," Vela said.

"Our South Texas delegation will hear first-hand from President Obama as he shares his vision of our country and its future. During this critical time that our country is faced with, South Texas Democrats must be ready to act and support President Obama in his re-election," Vela said.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the outpouring of support from South Texas forced organizers of the Obama event to change venues in order to accommodate the large number of attendees.

Buses are scheduled to leave from Harlingen to San Antonio Monday afternoon. The South Texas delegation will return Tuesday afternoon to the Rio Grande Valley.
