Today Congressman Bob Goodlatte voted in support of H.R. 6079, the Repeal of Obamacare Act. Congressman Bob Goodlatte issued the following statement in response to passage of this repeal legislation:
"Following the disappointing Supreme Court decision to uphold the constitutionality of Obamacare, the House of Representatives moved swiftly to pass bipartisan legislation, once again, to fully repeal this monstrosity, which amounts to a big government takeover of our health care system -- one that will lead to fewer choices, higher prices and rationed care.
The American people are demanding action and they can be assured that the House of Representatives is fully committed to repealing the harmful Obamacare legislation and replacing it with commonsense policies that cut health insurance costs and make health care better, more available, and more affordable for all Americans.
The President's "health care reform' law creates more than 155 new government boards, bureaucracies, commissions and programs at an overwhelming cost to the American people. It mandates that folks have health insurance, makes significant cuts to Medicare and includes substantial new tax increases imposed on individuals and small businesses. Tax increases, new government regulations and costly mandates certainly add up to the wrong prescription for health care reform and will have a devastating effect on our national economy.
We know that Americans are frustrated by rising health care costs and something must be done to make health care better, more available, and more affordable for all Americans. That is why once Obamacare is repealed we must replace it with a patient-centered strategy that puts patients, families and doctors, not Washington bureaucrats, in control of personal health care decisions.
We must advance policies that allow individuals to purchase health insurance in the same ways that they purchase all other forms of insurance, allow individuals and small businesses to join large pools to get more competitive rates, provide liability reform to cut down the high cost of defensive medicine, allow full tax deductibility of health insurance premiums, and provide for portability of health insurance and protection against pre-existing condition exclusions. In addition, I support health insurance tax credits for individuals and families who don't have access to employer-based health insurance, increasing the number of community health centers, and encouraging the use of health information technology to achieve greater efficiencies.
It's your job to make health care decisions for your family. The government must work to ensure that you have access to affordable alternatives and then get out of the way which is why I have voted nearly thirty times to repeal, defund and dismantle Obamacare and I keep fighting until we have fully repealed this disastrous law in its entirety."
H.R. 6079, passed the House of Representatives, with Congressman Goodlatte's support, by a bipartisan vote of 244-185.
