Congressman Robert Hurt today released the following statement after voting to repeal the President's health care law that was enacted last Congress. This is the second time the House has voted to repeal this law. It passed the House with bipartisan support by a vote of 244--185:

"Once again, the House has acted on behalf of the American people to ensure that their voices are heard in this important debate. The President's health care law is not just bad policy; it is an affront to our founding principles that 5th District Virginians and Americans across this country have held dear for the past 236 years. At a time when unemployment remains persistently high and Americans are faced with looming tax hikes, the people of Virginia's 5th District have called for less government and more opportunity; not a continuation of the big government, job-crushing policies we have seen like the government takeover of health care. With this vote today, the House has reaffirmed our resolve to repeal this misguided law and replace it with commonsense reforms that restore our founding principles, reduce the debt burden that is crushing our economy, create an environment where our small businesses can hire and expand, and eliminate this massive tax hike on the American people. I was proud to cosponsor this legislation and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to continue with the House's example of transparent government and bring this bill to the Senate Floor for a vote."
