U.S. Congressman David Cicilline, who will walk in the Bristol Fourth of July Parade tomorrow morning, issued the following statement:
"Like many Rhode Islanders, I'm looking forward to spending some time with family and friends tomorrow as we celebrate the Fourth of July. This day is especially important for Rhode Island, which was the first of the thirteen colonies to declare its independence from England. Tomorrow, we will remember the sacrifices made by our Founding Fathers - especially Stephen Hopkins and William Ellery, whose signatures appear on the Declaration of Independence."
"This year we will also honor a new generation of heroes - the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who are serving our country in Afghanistan and all over the world. As we wait for their safe return home, we remember the sacrifices that have been made by all those who serve. A grateful nation is keeping all of them and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers this Independence Day."
