U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Air Force's letter informing Rep. Miller of their intention to receive an exemption and move forward with the planned changes to the A-10s based at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Miller said:
"Throughout this process the Air Force has failed to make the case for cuts to the Air National Guard on a readiness basis, a cost saving basis, or any basis. Today, they informed me of their intention to once again attempt to eliminate the 107th Fighter Squadron of the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base of the Michigan Air National Guard, and asked for the support of Congress to allow this exception to Congress' clear desire to protect the Air Guard from these draconian cuts. My answer to the Administration is simple...No. I will continue to oppose any efforts that would decimate the Michigan Air National Guard, or the Guard in any state for that matter, and I will work with my colleagues to make certain the protections won in the National Defense Authorization Act are adhered to."
