Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the impending closure of the 911th Airlift Wing has been suspended by the Department of Defense. The base will remain open and operational and continue to provide vital national security capabilities to the entire nation. Shuster has worked closely with Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) and the Western Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation to highlight the strategic importance of the 911th Airlift Wing and the incredible cost savings it provides to the Air Force.
"This is encouraging news not only for the airmen and families of the 911th Airlift Wing, but also for every citizen that expects our federal government to support the best national security assets for the best value. The 911th Airlift Wing has a long and distinguished history of military service and continues to be one of the most cost effective bases in our military."
The proposed Air Force cuts to force structure are suspended until Congress can conduct a full cost benefit analysis and provide additional budgetary guidance to the military. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Shuster will continue to work with Murphy in support of the 911th and the critical role it plays for our national security.
