The Governor and State Legislature have decided to move thousands of convicted felons from our state prisons to county jails without properly funding the proposal. This has already begun to create a public safety nightmare that our local police and sheriffs will have to manage. Crime will most certainly increase.
Within the next 24 months in Shasta County there will be 600 state prison felons released into our community. The county will receive a mere $4,300 to monitor and provide support services to these felons instead of the $50,000 to $70,000 the state currently spends.
You can see how Sacramento has transferred their problem onto us.
