"Today we have taken one more step towards equality for all Americans. Leadership on tough issues brings about positive change and for this I thank our President. Whether it is ending bullying and workplace discrimination or giving all Americans the full rights and dignity they deserve, I remain committed and steadfast in my support of equality and fairness for all. Today we celebrate a new beginning of understanding and equality. " May 9, 2012
Joe Garcia has long advocated for equal rights for all Americans. As leader on this issue and in the community, Joe openly called for the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, and has long supported the Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and updating hate crimes legislation to include sexual orientation. As the leader of the Cuban American National Foundation, he successfully campaigned against the repeal of Miami-Dade's human rights ordinance in 2002.
