Caring for our environment is an important part of government. Growing up on our 500 acre farm and being an avid outdoorsman gave me a deep appreciation for our natural resources. Protection of these resources must be balanced with the taxpayers ability to pay. Based on the current economic environment I strongly disagree with the recent funding initiatives that were passed for issues, such as global warming, that are simply unproven theories. I believe in programs such as increased use of nuclear power plants, which would decrease pollution and our dependence on fossil fuels. Protection of the Great Lakes is also essential, as they provide drinking water to over 30 million people. I would use common sense when reviewing, drafting or voting on environmental legislation.
