Our State education system historically has been ranked top in the nation, which is something to be proud of. Since Governor Doyle has taken office our education ranking has begun to deteriorate, so we have some work to do. Having two kids in school and being involved on the School Board has given me an appreciation for, and insight into, education. The key to quality education is solid teachers, involved parents, and local decision making. We must continue school choice and putting accountability in place. We must get parents more involved, because teachers need active partners in order to maximize their effectiveness. Also, we need to get our cost per student under control, as this is not in line with the quality of the education being provided. This is especially evident in our inner city schools.
